Hockey Euro Championships 2025

The 20th edition of the Hockey Euro Championships will be held in Mönchengladbach, Germany. A total of 20 matches will be played at the Warsteiner HockeyPark from 8th to 16th August. This time, the championship features the best 8 teams from all over Europe.

Tournament Format:
The teams were seeded into 4 pots depending on their World Rankings, with each pot consisting of 2 teams:
Pot 1: Germany, Netherlands
Pot 2: Belgium, England
Pot 3: France, Spain
Pot 4: Austria, Poland
A team from each pot was then divided into 2 pools, each containing 4 teams.

Pool B:
- Germany
- England
- France
- Poland
The top 2 teams from each pool will advance into the semi-final stage, while the remaining teams finishing in 3rd and 4th place will compete for the 5th spot in the tournament.
Significance of the Tournament:
This championship holds great importance as it provides direct qualification for the Hockey World Cup 2026. The team finishing on top secures a World Cup spot. However, if Belgium or Netherlands win the tournament, the next best-ranked team will qualify for the World Cup. The remaining teams finishing between 2nd to 6th place will qualify for the World Cup 2026 Qualifiers.
Defending Champions:
The Netherlands are the two-time defending champions of the Euro Championships. They defeated England in the 2023 final with a score of 2-1. Belgium finished 3rd, beating Germany 2-0.
Venue:
All matches will be played at the Warsteiner HockeyPark, which has a seating capacity of around 9,000 people. This championship holds great value as teams compete to be the best in Europe.
All matches played in the tournament are recognized under FIH international rankings, meaning that points gained from them will count towards the world rankings.
