Hockey Asia Cup 2025

The 12th edition of the Hockey Asia Cup will be held in Rajgir, India, from 27 August to 7 September 2025. A total of 8 teams will participate in this edition of the Hockey Asia Cup 2025.

Participating Teams

Six teams have directly qualified based on the FIH world rankings

  • Pakistan
  • India
  • Malaysia
  • Korea
  • Japan
  • China

The remaining two teams will qualify through the 2025 AHF Cup, which is scheduled to be held from 17th to 27th April in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Tournament Format

The teams will be divided into two pools of four teams each. The top two teams from each pool will qualify for the semi-finals. Teams finishing in 3rd and 4th place will play classification matches for the 5th position and other rankings.

The official pools will be announced after the AHF Cup, where the final two teams will be confirmed.

Importance of the Tournament

The Hockey Asia Cup 2025 holds great significance as it provides an ultimate qualification spot for the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026, set to be held in Netherlands and Belgium. The team winning the tournament will automatically qualify for the World Cup.

Teams finishing in 2nd to 6th place will have another opportunity to qualify through the FIH World Cup qualifying events in 2026. Therefore, even the classification matches for 5th to 8th position will be crucial for teams that fail to make it to the semi-finals.

Defending Champions

South Korea are the defending champions of the Hockey Asia Cup. They won the 2022 edition, defeating Malaysia 2-1 in the final.

  • India secured 3rd place after defeating Japan 1-0 in the bronze medal game.

  • South Korea holds the record for the most Asia Cup titles with five championships.
